Bc Ferries Collective Agreement 2021

BC Ferries and the British Columbia Ferry and Marine Workers` Union (BCFMWU) have reached a new collective agreement that will be in effect until 2024. This agreement covers over 1,400 employees, including deckhands, cooks, ticket agents, and maintenance workers.

One of the primary changes in the new agreement involves wages. Employees will receive wage increases of 2% per year, with an additional increase of 2.5% in the final year of the agreement. The agreement also includes provisions for evening and weekend shift premiums, as well as a new apprenticeship program for deckhands.

In addition to wage increases, the new agreement includes changes to benefits and scheduling. Employees will be able to access additional paid time off for personal reasons, and there will be more flexibility regarding scheduling.

Both BC Ferries and the BCFMWU expressed satisfaction with the new agreement. BC Ferries CEO Mark Collins stated that the agreement “reinforces our commitment to attracting and retaining a talented workforce,” while BCFMWU President Graeme Johnston noted that the agreement “reaffirms the value and importance of our members` work.”

The new agreement comes at a time of ongoing challenges for BC Ferries due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The company has had to adjust its operations and implement new safety protocols to protect employees and passengers. However, the successful negotiation of this new agreement signals a positive step forward for BC Ferries and its employees.
